Which certifications may be helpful for your career path, or which ones should be the next? That ‘Security Certification Roadmap’ of Paul Jerimy can guide us to find some answers: Security Certification Roadmap
Before giving the details, I’d like to thank Brian Correia and Jennifer Santiago for mentioning that webpage in a presentation called “Cybersecurity Role Finder: Navigating Your Personal Path into Cybersecurity Careers” on March 14, 2023, at SANS Institute's New2Cyber Summit.
SANS Institute
SANS (SysAdmin, Audit, Network, and Security) is a private US-based institution focusing on information security training, education and certification. They organize various online and onsite events.
Security Certification Roadmap
It is a webpage that currently shows 473 certifications based on difficulty levels (beginner, intermediate, expert) and subjects: Communication and Network Security, Identity and Access Management, Security Architecture and Engineering, Asset Security, Security and Risk Management, Security Assessment and Testing, Software Security, and Security Operations. Those topics also have subtopics that can be seen.
It may take some time to find the sought certificate on the page. When you scroll onto any certificate box, it shows the full name, price for the exam and contains the link to the related website.
It is beneficial because it shows the potential following targets for professionals they may select to obtain. Especially in long-term planning, that would be a good source. Because the beginner level certificates generally don’t require working experience. But if we check the CISSP of (ISC)², it requires five years of experience. (ISC)² also accepts some other certifications for CISSP requirements to satisfy for one year.
I want to thank Paul Jerimy for that project.
