Karsu and Her Splendid Songs

Karsu Dönmez is a singer, pianist, composer, and also a musical arranger and lyricist. The cover photo is from her “Vuslat” music video. She was born in Amsterdam, the Netherlands as a daughter of a Turkish family. Her name comes from the village of her parents in today’s Karsuköyü, Hatay, Turkey. As an addition to her artistic career, she also gives speeches in Ted Talks. There are also documentaries about her life. She has started to play piano at 7, sing at 14 and compose at her 15. During her career, she has played at Amsterdam Concertgebouw and Carnegie Hall in New York and in more than twenty countries. “She learned to play classical pieces by Chopin, Mozart, Bach, and Beethoven, alongside traditional Turkish songs and contemporary jazz songs.” Her more detailed biography is on her official website.
